Tuesday 4th November – Windsurf ***** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods.

Foil – 19.92 knot max, 18.76 knot ave., 15.24 knot hour (year PB), 17.94 knot mile (year PB), 49.13 km., 15.94 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Bolt 5.7.

With the cough continuing, its been at least a fortnight now I took the easier option again by heading over to Levington Marina early arriving at 8.40, a few were going for an open sea sail at The Dip in Felixstowe this afternoon, giving time for the tide to drop, I was lucky I did not choose that option as the wind dropped and the sun disappeared! Once again our launch area is blocked off as they are working on that end of the marina, removing pontoons, then dredging and replacing the pontoon anchoring posts, I have a feeling it will be blocked all winter meaning we will have to walk our gear a little further to launch which is not a huge problem although parking might be an issue on busy days! My foil board was quickly set up but choosing a sail was harder as it was very marginal but at least the sun was out, there were three wingers here again today using 5/6m wings so I took a chance with my 5.75 again hoping it would fill-in! I launched just before 9.30 into marginal winds and slowly sailed towards Pin Mill as the wind increased and I didn’t look back rarely coming off the foil for two hours, this was Levington at its best. I love a SW wind here as you can do long runs in lovely smooth water from the corner to the left of the marina where the wind is at its strongest down just short of Pin Mill where the trees take the wind! I did 11 runs sailing a little over 30 miles getting two year PB’s, best miles and hour, an impressive for me 15.24 knots, I also got loads of top mile runs and fast alphas!! I just missed out on breaking 20 knots and got an OK average, just brilliant sailing and only lost the breeze right at the session and had to wobble back. Pack up, shower, take a few weather pics and I was still home by one before spending the afternoon with an old friend sharing a cuppa and cake, what a top day:)
